Jim Sundberg

CIO

Jim Sundberg is CIO of Colaborate, which he operates with Kevin Hunter and Larry Small, and heads up the company’s Technology Services group. He has more than 25 years of experience in information technology, with proven experience managing complex IT systems and services for hospitals and laboratories.

Mr. Sundberg is skilled in IT, healthcare information management, senior management, operations, reference lab outreach, project management, network and software engineering, startups, and change management and lean processes. He has demonstrated success in developing business plans, delivering presentations, and providing technology expertise and oversight.

Prior to Colaborate, Mr. Sundberg served as Chief Information Officer at Marquette General Health System (MGHS), based in Marquette, Michigan. He managed the design and creation of the Upper Peninsula Health Information Network, which was developed to provide information technology to Upper Peninsula Health Care Network (UPHCN) members. Under his direction, the UPHCN became one of Michigan’s most successful regional health information organizations, which now provides more than 30 IT services and systems to 6,000 users, 70 sites, 100 employed physicians, and more than 200 independent physicians.

Mr. Sundberg was the founder and CEO of MGHS’s technology subsidiary, UPCARE Technology, Inc., created to deliver information sharing and application integration for healthcare providers and clinical laboratories. In addition to forming the company’s vision and mission, Mr. Sundberg developed its business plan. He also created policies and procedures, established a financial reporting system and budget, and established product cost and fee schedules to support operations. He managed the creation and implementation of UPCARE Technology's Web-based software applications. These applications include UPCARE® eLAB, which is used by MGHS for its large lab outreach program, and UPCARE® eMR, an integrated, HL-7 structured electronic medical record system.

Mr. Sundberg worked for the Cleveland-Cliffs Iron Company, a Fortune 500 Company, at its Tilden Mine as a networking consultant, designing and installing IBM Token Ring and Ethernet network technology. He also worked for Cleveland-Cliffs corporate headquarters, where he was responsible for PC network development and LAN/mainframe integration for all of Cliff's North American operations. He was Founder and President of SunSoft, Inc., a computer software development company that created and directly marketed PC accounting software nationally. He also installed one of the first Novell networks in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan when he worked at Sundberg, Carlson & Associates in Marquette, Michigan.

Mr. Sundberg earned a BS degree in computational mathematics with a minor in data processing from Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Michigan.
